Isopods are essential for bioactive habitats, breaking down waste, recycling nutrients, and supporting a healthy ecosystem. Hardy species like Porcellionides pruinosus are easy to keep, reproduce quickly, and serve as both cleaners and feeders.

 

  • Conditions: 60°F–90°F; 45%–90% humidity

  • Substrate: Organic soil with leaf litter, hardwood, and sphagnum moss

  • Diet: Decaying plants, vegetables (squash, carrots, cucumber), calcium (eggshells, cuttlebone)

  • Benefits: Waste cleanup, soil enrichment, microorganism seeding, live food source
